What to do if your Smartphone drops in water

When your phone drops in water its a pretty bad feeling, But it’s not always the end of the world. The few minutes that pass since the accident will determine whether you will be able to use your phone in the future, and here are the things to do in case you accidentally drown your smartphone.

1. Turn your phone off immediately.

Running an electrical charge through any wet electrical circuit is will cause problems, thanks to water’s famous conductivity. But wetting an off-circuit is nowhere near as bad as wetting an active one. And just because an electrical device gets wet doesn’t mean it’s immediately destroyed.

2. For beer and other liquids: Wash the phone with a damp cloth.

Just dry it off with a damp clothe. but make sure the water is not salty. Be extra careful around the cracks and ports, so that you don’t push the water further. Most smartphones these days should be able to cope with a damp cloth. Just dry it off again immediately.

3. Remove The Parts

Modern mobile phones rarely have the option to remove the battery, but if your smartphone comes with this functionality, this should be the next thing you do. Whether you can or cannot remove the battery, what you definitely can do is remove the SIM card and the memory card if you have one. Make sure not to shake or tap your phone too vigorously because the water will spread faster that way.

4. Dry it with a soft towel.

You can also use a paper towel or cloth but make sure it’s gentle and lint-free. Be very careful not to move any water into cracks, crevices or ports. You can also use your towel to dry any parts you were able to remove like the SIM-card, micro-SD card and battery.

5. Keep your phone in a dry area.

The most important thing now is to leave your phone alone to get dry. And if you are thinking how long you should wait for this ? the standard time is 1-2days.

6. Switch it on when you are sure it is dry.

7. Observe For Changes.

With a bit of luck, once your phone is dry it could go on working just fine. Or it might go on working, but with some strange new glitches. Keep a watchful eye over the next few days and test its performance on key tasks like playing music, taking photos, etc. If you do notice problems, you may have to get it repaired or replaced.
